No matter how old you are, many of us have suffered in the past. A hard raising, bullying, lack of love or affection from family, loneliness, insecurity, etc. are some of the reasons. Things that hang you to the past, wounds that need to be healed.
Nowadays, there are a meditation theraphy called “Healing the Inner Child” that is used to heal all these old scratches in your soul and mind and recover the self confidence to forgive and forget the damage and keep going with a better and lighter life.
What is exactly Healing the Inner Child? According to the Wikipedia, “Inner child is a concept used in popular psychology and Analytical psychology to denote the childlike aspect of a person’s psyche, especially when viewed as an independent entity. Frequently, the term is used to address subjective childhood experiences and the remaining effects of one’s childhood. The inner child also refers to all of the emotional memory and experiences stored in the brain from earliest memory. The Twelve-step program recovery movement considers healing the inner child to be one of the essential stages in recovery from addiction, abuse, trauma, or post-traumatic stress disorder”.
But… what is exactly this theraphy and how can we practice it? Is a simple affective meditation to visualizing yourself as a child and show him/her affection, love, comprehension and confidence. This is a very effective therapy to heal childhood traumas. You can do it at any time or place, with a regular basis, when you most need it or whenever you have a moment to talk to yourself.
How can I show love for myself? Is there any way to learn this meditation? Yes. There are guided meditations by teachers or advanced people. This is a little example:
Imagine youself, seated in a calm place, it could be your living room, a forrest, a beach, etc. In front of you, you see a child, a beautiful child. It depends on you how is that child in look or emotional state. With a gentle and warm feeling you embrace him, giving him/her a lovely hug and taking him/her by shoulders you will say to him/her:
Dear child, you are a beautiful and deeply loved child. You were conceived with love and deeply desired since the first minute of your life. You have not to be afraid anymore or feel alone because I am with you now and I love you. Nobody will hurt you because I will protect you from anything. I am here to play with you so you won’t be alone anymore. Come to me, embrace ourselves in a tight hug because you will no longer be suffering anymore.
If you are plenty of time, you might spent some time visualizing playing with your inner child, maybe constructing castles in the sand, playing in the backyard, smiling in the playground. Anything that might build a strong relationship with your inner child and make both of you to feel happy.
Remember always to say to him or her that you will be there anytime he or she needs you. You will be instantly at the reach of his /her hand when it would be necessary and say good bye with a big big hug.
The longer you practice this excercise, you will feel yourself more relaxed, happy, calm, confident and strong to deal with your life.
I deeply encourage you to be in touch with your inner child. I hope you feel better after practice this meditation as I did (I even cried).
Blessings for everyone.
